Das geht auch ohne JS z.B. mit PHP & Session.
JS hat m.E. da eine Berechtigung, wo Clientseitig reagiert werden muss (z.B. so Spielereien wie Mouseover) und nicht erst wieder der Server mit PHP reagieren soll.
Allerdings darf das nicht so ausarten, dass man die Seite ohne JS nicht bedienen kann. Dann ist es zuviel des guten.
