Leistungswiderstand explodiert (Elektronik)

Hallo!

Ich habe kurz gesagt eine gleichspannungs Schaltung wo ich zuerst die + Seite dann eine Leitung mit einem Leistungswiderstand benutze um beim Zusammenstecken den "Lichtbogen" bzw das "Geräusch" etc.. zu vermeiden und dann die Minus Seite zusammenstecke und somit den Stromkeis schließe.

Anfangsstrom ca 5A
Spannung ca 44,4 V
Leistungswiderstand muss ich erst nochmal nachsehen aber denk so um die 5-20W

Dann nach ca 20-30 sec explodiert mir mein Leistungswiderstand..

Warum?

Ist er einfach so klein das auch nach einem geschlossenen Stromkeis zuviel Leistung drauf hängt?

Warum schießt er mir dann nicht gleich bevor ich den Stromkeis über die - Seite geschlossen habe und somit nichts mehr über den Leistungswiderstand fließt??
